This is Robert Bolinger : I was a young Sailor serving aboard this tug Boat in spring 1964 , We had recently received completely refitted tug from Bremerton Washington to replace are old Tug Boat . We received an emergency call search and rescue standby call a P2V Air Craft was inbound with a feathered engine . We had a New skipper that was unfamiliar with the waters around the Adak our charts show 6 fathoms of water . Needless to say that wasn’t true we were traveling fairly fast when we hit something that jolted everyone they hollered from the engine room that we were taking on water we got the word out that we were sinking inflated the life raft in abandon ship lost all of our belongings because we lived aboard the tug .
